What is the age range of nominees?
Nominees must be from 10 to 30 years of age.
What is the deadline for submitting nomination packages?
All nominations must be received no later than Friday, June 24th, 2011.
Where and when will the 2011 youth awards be presented?
The AAYAA gala begins at 7:30 pm (doors open 6:30 pm), Friday,
Sept. 23, 2011 at the Winspear Centre, 102 Ave & 99 Street, in Edmonton.
Where should I send my completed nominations package?
Return to: Christie Ladouceur, Rupertsland Institute, Third Floor, 12308-111 Ave., Edmonton, AB, T5M 2N4. For more information call (780) 423-2237.
Can I fax or e-mail my application form to you?
No, fax and e-mail applications will not be accepted. Our postal address is included in your nominations package. - SCROLL DOWN -
Can I nominate my child, sibling or grandchild?
Yes, however we require official “Letters of Support” from a variety of sources.
I want to nominate a youth in more than one category, do I need to fill out more than one nomination package?
Yes, a separate and complete nomination package must be submitted for each category.
Can I send supporting documents such as awards, certificates, photos, etc.?
Yes, but please send COPIES only. Original documents will NOT be returned.
Is it acceptable to submit only two (2) letters of reference?
No, three (3) letters are required for each nomination. Incomplete packages will NOT be accepted.
Do I need to submit a copy of my Métis card or Status card?
No, please do not submit any personal information unless requested to do so.
How are award finalists and winners selected?
Each finalist and winner is selected by an independent panel of Alberta Métis, First Nations and Inuit youth ranging in age from 10 - 30 years.
How can I get involved in the selection process?

How will award finalists be notified?
All finalists will be notified by telephone. An official news release
will be distributed to the news media and posted here.
Will all applicants be notified once the finalists are chosen?
Yes, all applicants will receive a letter notifying them of their nomination status.
What if I win but don’t want my name or information made public?
Be sure to let us know. Award finalists and winners who do not want their names published will not be identified in any information distributed publicly.
When will I know if I won the award and when will I get it?
Winners will be announced and awards presented during the Alberta Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards show on Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton.
